The house "Haus der Volkskunst" in Balingen Dürrwangen is an international meeting point for people interested in traditional music and culture.
Many internatinal groups joined the "Schwäbische Sackkpfeifen" Festival and the Volkstanzfestival Balingen

We started now a new project: Herdman’s music in Europe

Music belongs to the herdman’s work a long time.
Instruments like the herdman’s horn, bagpipes,
flutes and shawm are practical work equipment.
They are used for signals and in order to control the herd.
But surely these musical instruments were also played for entertainment.
This unusual double function created a characteristic and
rich musical culture with fantastic melodies and sound.
The herdman’s trade was known all over Europe.
The herdman’s music belongs to a common European
cultural heritage.
With this internet platform we want to contribute to preserve and
develop this European cultural heritage.
